RoadRecall privacy policy

Learn it. Remember it. Pass.

Summary

RoadRecall works without an account, keeping what you type in, such as your name and test date, on your phone. Signing in is optional and backs your learning up so it carries to another device. The free version shows ads from Google AdMob, which collects some data as described below. Buying the full deck removes ads.

What stays on your device

Your first name, theory test date and daily goal; your study progress, quiz scores, streak and starred cards; and your settings. Without an account these never leave your device.

If you sign in

Signing in is optional. When you do, a copy of the information above is kept under your account on Google Firebase, in the United Kingdom, so your learning carries to another device. Only you can read it. If you sign in with Google or Apple we receive your name and email address from them; with email we store the address you give us. You can delete your account and that copy at any time from Account and sync, and you can keep using the app without an account.

Messages

Reminders you set are scheduled on your device. If you turn on news messages, we send occasional announcements through Firebase Cloud Messaging, which stores a message token for your device until you turn them off.

Advertising

The free version uses Google AdMob to show ads. Google may collect your device’s advertising identifier, IP address and approximate location from it, and information about the ads you see and tap, to show and measure ads and to prevent fraud. In the UK, EEA and Switzerland you are asked for consent before personalised ads, and you can change your choice at any time from Ad personalisation in the menu or Settings. On iPhone, ads are only personalised if you allow tracking. Google’s use of this data is covered by its privacy policy at policies.google.com/privacy.

Purchases

The full deck unlock is bought through the App Store or Google Play. They handle payment; RoadRecall only learns whether your store account owns the unlock, and never sees your payment details.

How the app is used

Unless you turn it off, RoadRecall sends Google Analytics for Firebase a count of things like sessions finished, quiz scores and new sign-ins, and sends Firebase Crashlytics a report when something breaks: the fault, where in the code it happened, and your device type and app version. Both carry a random identifier for the app on this device, and neither includes your name, your email or which cards you got wrong. We use them to see which decks people finish, where they give up, and what to fix. Turn them off with Share anonymous usage in Settings, which stops collection rather than hiding it.

Reading aloud

Reading cards aloud uses your phone’s built-in text-to-speech voice.

Deleting your data

Use Delete my data in Settings to erase your name, test date, progress, starred cards and settings from this device, and Delete account in Account and sync to remove the cloud copy and your account. Uninstalling the app also removes what's on the device. If your phone backs up apps to your Google or Apple account, a copy may remain in that backup until it’s updated or deleted there.

Children

RoadRecall is meant for people learning to drive and isn’t directed at children under 13.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be in the app and at https://roadrecall-app.web.app/privacy.html. Last updated 28 September 2026.
